Confidence from the Ground Up
1910
The Beginning
Armed with a strong work ethic and seeking a better life, our founder, Sam Halebian came to the United States in 1910. Despite enduring the handicaps of illiteracy and speaking minimal English, Sam was successful in procuring employment delivering oriental rugs to apartment houses within the radius of New York City.
1931
The Opportunity
In 1931, Sam’s employer fell victim to the Great Depression. Always the entrepreneur, Sam saw great opportunity in his unemployment.
Sam pondered the reality that the rugs he has been delivering for more than two decades were always in need of repair. Such repairs involved the constant use of knives, scissors, thread, wool, wax and other related accessories. A new industry was created by an immigrant who refused to let misfortune get the best of him.
1945
The New Generation
Sam’s nephew Mike Halebian came to work for him during after school hours in the late 1930s. After competing high school Mike enlisted in the US Army and served in Europe until 1945 where he returned home to purchase his uncle’s business.
Immediately, Mike expanded the Company’s product offering to tools and accessories involving the installation of carpet. The prevalent thought at this time was that a “stand alone” flooring accessories distributor could not exist as a stand alone operation.
1981
The New Home
In 1970 Mike moved the primary location of the Company to Carlstadt, NJ. In 1981, Mike’s son Michael, Jr. joined the operation to be followed seven years later by Joe Choflet.
2019
The Future
A new generation came equipped with new idea. Product offering was expanded from installation accessories to finished flooring such as vinyl, rubber, laminate and wood.
Originally a New York Metro based distributor has now expanded to servicing the Philadelphia Metro Area and Central Pennsylvania as well as New England.
Current management is always reviewing new product lines in order to offer only state of the art alternatives to flooring which is functional and decorative.
